National Flower/Bearded Fig Trees
|
Pride of Barbados Flower, Holders Hill, September 8, 2003 This is the national flower of B'dos. It is known as The Pride of Barbados, Caesalpinia pulcherrima. It is one of the most popular tropical garden shrubs, grows quickly, and is tolerant to most soils, and blooms throughout the year. It comes in several colours, red-orange, yellow, red and yellow, and a pale yellow. The colour on the Coat of Arms is the red variety with yellow margins on its petals. Untrimmed, the Pride of Barbados will grow to about 10 to 15 feet. It makes a lovely hedge and its branches are prickly. Two Bearded Fig Trees outside a South Coast Hotel. September 9, 2003 Large, and majestic but there are not many around in Barbados today. |
