The National Flag of Barbados

As seen here

The National Flag of Barbados - The national flag of Barbados is comprised of three equal vertical panels - the centre panel of gold and the outer panels of ultramarine. A broken trident in black is located in the centre of the flag.

The blue represents the sea and sky of Barbados, while gold represents the sand of the island's beaches. The symbol at the centre of the flag represents the Trident of the mythical sea god, Neptune - the shaft of the trident is broken symbolising Barbados' break from Britain of which Barbados was a colony.

This information was received through The Barbados Government Information Services Department.

The designer of the flag, Grantley Prescod, died on November 13, 2003.

In 2002, he was honoured by Barbados' Prime Minister who selected him to flick the switch which lit up the capital city of Bridgetown for Independence.

Yachts in Carlisle Bay, Schooner Restaurant of Grand Barbados Beach Resort

Bay Street, Bridgetown, September 8, 2003.  The structure in the ocean is a restaurant where you can look at the parrot fish, congo eels, barracuda and other sea creatures.  Yachts nestle in the quiet bay.

Both the National Flag and the Coat of Arms were designed with the sea in mind as the beauty of the sea  plays such a prominent part in the island.  Barbados is renown for its beautiful beaches and the sea which in some parts of the island is peaceful and tranquil while other parts it is turbulent and enjoyed by surfers.
