Ensure Bouvs. have a cool place to
rest and always have fresh water to drink during the day. Do not exercise Bouvs. for long periods
during the very hot sun or leave unattended in vehicles with rolled
up windows. Our frogs (toads) are poisonous so
don't allow Bouvs. to pick them up or play with them. We do get heartworm in the
tropics. Areas which have a lot of mosquitoes tend to have
heartworm. Let a vet check, and, if necessary, treat for
Heartworm. It is very important to let a vet check
puppies for worms, especially hookworm, which can be deadly and treat, if
necessary. We also get round worm and tape worm. I routinely
worm my adult dogs twice a year. Ensure your Bouvs. are protected
against ticks and fleas. Tick fever can be fatal. Do not let Bouvs. play with
shrubs/plants. Some of these, like the oleander and poinsettia, are
poisonous. Puppies should receive 3 vaccinations
against parovirus. The vaccination will also include distemper,
hepatitus and leptospirosis. Vets here will recommend giving an
annual booster.
