Show Dogs in Barbados Page 2
Anyone in the show ring who does not think that most UK judges coming to judge in Barbados do not have an idea of what dogs are down here, is rather naïve. UK Judges talk to other UK judges who have judged in Barbados, and UK kennel owners who have sent down dogs also talk to the judges. And there are dog owners here who also have connections to judges coming down.Usually the shows are sponsored by companies which carry a dog food line so the top dogs usually receive dog food, and trophies which are perpetual. Best in Show dogs also get a gift from the local kennel club. The Barbados Kennel Club has annual awards for The Dog of The Year and Best Locally Bred Dog of the year. These point systems are as below and these points are obtained through the dog’s accumulation of points from the shows held in a calendar year. These awards are based on a points system set in place by the Committee of The Barbados Kennel Club in 1996.BKC’s Dog of the Year AwardEvery dog that competes will receive one (1) point, and then points are awarded as follows:
· Numbers refer to (a) the number of dogs competing within the sex for the CC, (b) the number of dogs competing within the breed for Best of Breed and (c) the number of breeds competing within the group for the Best of Group and Reserve. NO POINTS will be awarded for Best of Breed, etc. if the CC is withheld. All points up to and including the Best of Group are cumulative. The dog judged Best in Show will receive 200 points; the dog judged Reserve Best in Show will receive 150 points. These are the only points these dogs will receive for each show.
